Pilates Power Center is a host site for Balanced Body University®, with a full range of Pilates instructor certification programs.
Whether you are interested in teaching Mat classes, Reformer classes or Pilates personal training sessions on the Reformer, Trap Table, Chair and Barrels, BBU has the resources you need to succeed. The curriculum emphasizes the principles underlying each exercise. Paula Anderson is a faculty member of BBU and provides trainings at the studio throughout the year.
Our program is designed in modules so you can take your first course now and continue your training next week, next month or next year. Each module is self contained so you can take them as quickly or as slowly as your schedule and budget allow. All workshops provide ACE credits.

Pilates Mat work is the foundation of Pilates and provides a great total body workout. The Balanced Body University Mat program includes the full repertoire of Pilates mat exercises, along with modifications and variations designed to make your program successful for a wide range of clients. By focusing on the principles underlying the Pilates method, cueing, we give you the power to be a creative and inspiring teacher.
The Principles of Pilates course is a Pilates Power Center workshop providing an introduction to the essential core knowledge especially designed for the beginning and aspiring Pilates teacher. This class will prepare students to enter BBU Mat, Reformer, and Apparatus modules. The course covers the anatomy and function of the deep core and the basic pre-Pilates repertoire.Required before attending Mat 1 and 2.
Mat 1 Includes an introduction to the history and principles of Pilates, pre-Pilates, beginning and intermediate level exercises with modifications, lectures on class order and programming in a group setting, and guidelines for teaching seniors and pre-post-natal classes. Prerequisites: 1 year teaching movement, 20 Pilates Mat classes. (16 hours)
Mat 2 includes the remaining intermediate and advanced level exercises, as well as tips for creating group classes and programs for specific sports. Prerequisite: Mat 1. (16 hours)
The Pilates Reformer is an extraordinarily versatile piece of exercise equipment allowing resistance and support for exercises involving every part of the body. Our program gives you a thorough understanding of how to use the Reformer to develop core and extremity strength, stability, flexibility, coordination and balance. The wide range of exercises provides a stimulating and fun workout for clients at any level of ability. Class program design will be covered in detail.
Reformer 1 Includes an introduction to the Pilates Studio Reformer including set up and safety, beginning exercises, program sequencing and teaching tips for group classes. By the end of the course you will be able to design and teach a beginning Reformer group class or personal training sessions. 18 hours. Prerequisites: 2 years experience teaching movement, anatomy, 30 Pilates Reformer classes. BBU Pilates Mat instructor training or equivalent (102 total hours) is required.
Reformer 2 includes intermediate exercises and modifications designed for group and individual instruction. Teaching successful classes to clients at different levels of ability and clients with physical limitations are emphasized. Sample programs for a variety of clients are included. 16 hours. Prerequisite: Reformer 1.
Reformer 3 training includes the advanced Reformer exercises plus sport specific programming tips and strategies for teaching the more challenging exercises safely and effectively. 14 hours. Prerequisite: Reformer 1 and 2.
Trapeze Table / Cadillac / Tower, Chair, Barrels and Small Equipment
BBU Pilates Apparatus Certification completes the full Pilates instructor certification program. Included is the complete repertoire on the Trapeze Table, the Pilates Chair, the Barrels and small equipment. Completing the additional apparatus training gives you a great variety of tools to use when working with clients and qualifies you to take the national Pilates certification exam.

To become a fully qualified Balanced Body University Pilates Instructor, students must complete the following requirements:
Total hours for completion of full program: 488 hours. Upon completion of all of the requirements, a certificate of completion as a Balanced Body University Pilates Instructor will be issued.
