A Reformer Class using the Pilates Arc
All classes are designed for healthy individuals with no acute/chronic injuries or special needs.
If you've never done Pilates before, this is the place to begin! The innovative SmartSpine System is an aid for students to learn all of the basic Pilates movements. The support pieces, warmed before use, will help your body find its most productive positioning for exercise. By supporting the skeletal and joint system in alignment, the neural system is retrained to recruit the deep muscles while releasing the overactive muscles. Using the SmartSpine tools you will learn:
The Reformer, originally invented by Joseph Pilates, is one of the most versatile pieces of fitness equipment -- not just Pilates equipment, but ALL fitness equipment. The spring driven Reformer provides resistance and support for exercises performed for every part of the body, on one machine. Classes begin with Pre-Pilates exercises to gently warm up and mobilize muscles and joints with an emphasis on proper breathing patterns and correct body alignment. The class includes exercises for the leg strength and alignment, core strength, spinal and hip mobility and upper body strength as well as overall flexibility.
The Mat repertoire was originally developed by Pilates to allow his studio clients to practice his method at home without the need for any special equipment. Our mat class incorporates small props including bands, stability balls, rollers, and fitness rings to assist students in finding the proper form and alignment for each exercise. The class focuses on core strength and spinal mobility along with leg and upper body strength and flexibility. The class begins with Pre-Pilates warm-up exercises then moves into the classical mat repertoire. Mat classes provide a safe, but invigorating workout while teaching the essential movement principles.
You will work out on all the studio apparatus including the Reformer, Springboard, and EXO Chair. In addition to the Reformer, this class uses the Pilates Springboard, a unique piece of equipment incorporating most of the apparatus found on the Trapeze Table. The EXO Chair, based on the original "Wonda" Chair, provides even more variety with both original repertoire and the addition of the functional resistance options using the attachment of elastic bands. This class provides a total body Pilates workout unlike any other!
This is an intermediate circuit style workout incorporating all of the Pilates equipment including Reformer, Trapeze Table, Springboard, EXO Chair, Pilates Arc Barrel and Mat. After the group warm-up, individual students are assigned to one piece of equipment, performing 1-2 exercises at that station, then moving on to the next station for a total of 4-5 stations per circuit, for 2-3 circuits. It’s a fast and fun workout for Pilates students with apparatus experience.
